Aluma started in 2010 as a small family crew on aluminum railings — long-lasting, low-maintenance systems built for Canadian weather. The work grew because customers told their neighbours. Decks, fences, columns, then patios and walls and the rest.
Aluma Contracting Ltd was incorporated in 2020 to formalize what had been operating informally for years. Today we run as one family of brands. The hub (alumarenovations.ca) does renovations and additions. The railings spoke (railingsandglass.ca) does aluminum and glass railings, fences, gates, and columns. The garden-suites spoke (alumagardensuites.ca) builds ADUs. Aluma Outdoor is the dedicated spoke for everything outside that isn't a railing or a garden suite — decks, patios, retaining walls, pergolas, gardens. Same legal entity. Same crew. Different focus per spoke.
The person you talk to on the phone is the person who comes to look at the project. The person who quotes is the person who's there on install day. The crew who shows up at 7 AM is the crew that left at 5 PM yesterday. No subcontractor maze on the structural work. No "the foreman moved to a different project." No surprises.
When we need a trade we don't carry in-house — engineered drawings for big walls, electrical for outdoor lighting, sometimes plant selection from a landscape designer — we bring in a partner we've worked with for years. They answer to us. You answer to no one but us.
Every outdoor build gets a written warranty appropriate to the work. Typical terms: 5 years on workmanship across all categories; manufacturer warranties on composite decking (25–30 years), aluminum decking (30+ years), and pavers (lifetime structural on most major brands) pass through directly.
Cedar and pressure-treated decks get a workmanship warranty but no material lifespan promise — wood is wood, and we'll tell you straight what to expect from each species in Ontario weather.
